For years I thought happiness came from those around you – your friends, family, peers, or even that special someone in your life. But, I was wrong. You cannot base your happiness on anyone else, or in the end, you will get hurt.
As depressing and dreary as that thought sounds, it is a message that needs to be shouted from the rooftops, a message many people need to hear.
I learned that happiness is something that does not grow over night. It takes weeks, months, and even years to grown. You need to nourish it, give it tons of water and sunshine, until one day, that happiness seed of yours will blossom and turn into a beautiful flower. Going along with this metaphor, you cannot depend on someone else to take care of your “flower.” Sure, once in awhile they might give it some rays of light, but what happens to that flower when it doesn’t get the water it needs? It dies, and the flower is left to fight on its own, weak and not ready to be so independent.
Happiness can grow from doing the things you find joy in: praying, reading, gardening, cooking, singing, dancing.. whatever it may be. Self reflection is all about trying new things until you find the hobby that makes your heart sing. I have started a soul searching journey myself. I have started to grow my own little garden, try holistic recipes, spend more time outside and off of my phone – all little things which make me feel nourished. I also came to realize that I have a passion now, more than ever, to go to work. I love the feeling of earning my own money, coming up with project ideas, and see those ideas come to life.
I hope you, dear reader, finds some sunshine in your life, and that you blossom into a beautiful sunflower.
