Dishin’ it with Dina Deleasa-Gonsar
Interview by: Devon Carrow
Recently, I was fortunate enough to get the chance to Skype with Dina Deleasa-Gonsar, aka “DishitGirl” an elementary school guidance counselor, turned chef, who over the past few years has turned a website originally created to pass around family recipes, into a popular social media enterprise, which features holiday-themed recipe ideas, traveling vlogs (and the exotic food that goes along with it), and interviews she has had with a multitude of different news sources.
Dina rose to fame after her family was featured on the hit E! Network television show, Married to Jonas. As the show gained popularity, so did Dina’s blog posts. People became very interested in the family’s lifestyle, and social media presence, which Dina admitted to be difficult sometimes. Life in the limelight can be pressure-filled, and somewhat stressful. Dina remains positive by keeping herself grounded, making both her family, and God, the center of her life. Instead of checking her email or social media as soon as she wakes up, Dina chooses to read the Bible, her favorite verse being: “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me” – Philippians 4:13. Dina says that it is important to not let other people’s negativity leave an impact on her, she knows her worth and will not let her well-being become impacted by the negative people that try to bring her down. This is an important lesson we could all use in our lives – there will always be people who want to drag us down, who are envious, or perhaps angered by the goals we have, but it is imperative to remember that we have only one life to live, and to not let anything, or anyone, stop us from achieving our dreams.
Dina says that self-motivation is an extremely important aspect to being a successful blogger. You must have a “steel-trap mind,” meaning you have a firm grasp on what you believe in, and you won’t let anyone’s words or actions interfere with this. For people looking to become bloggers, Dina suggests joining support groups on Facebook for bloggers, so that they can support each other, and give each other hints on topics that are trending. Additionally, Dina says that it is more important to focus on the quality of your work rather than the number of followers you have – if you love what you do, the followers will come on their own! And they do – DishitGirl is great! If you are a food lover, a person looking to travel, or someone who just likes to try new things, check out her social media sites, in addition to trying out some of her yummy recipes!
